Walking Into The Post Office

Text

And here, walking into the post office with purpose, I am striking.

• gorgeous dress

• dirty crocs

• wet hair

• makeup

• shaved skin

AESTHETIC CHECK

I’m Just a GIRL

I'm about to have a great time and doing errands in a partially glammed up state suggests I'm used to this life.

I bet, and I'm sure if I had the practice, I would too.

People are looking at me with focused eyes and smiling.

More dangerous girls know how to weaponize this!

I often feel beautiful out of nowhere - not necessarily from feedback from the environment that indicate that I'm pleasing to the eye, a sheer audacity maybe

The dandelion weed daring to be a flower.

JUST A GIRL

I'm clearly dismayed at the long line and the whole scene is very charming actually.

It's very clear that I'm going to a party later, so the people know that I am not in danger of not understanding aesthetics, just temporarily inconvenienced.

But this time, I know why people see me as a dynamic force in place of grey and blue walls and linoleum floors.

Though there is some grace for the "really does care" and "high effort" endeavor.

I guess if you put high effort into anything with good intention, despite your attitude, your well perceived character would shine through.

My appearance is teetering between really does not care and high effort. This is the sweet spot.

THIS IS WHAT IT MEANS TO BE COOL

I certainly feel cool now, though it's clear that I'm concerned at the size of the line.

All eyes on me with some sympathy that yes, I am an object in motion.

BECOME

A woman! Glorious, I say dryly.

I want to stay in motion except this wait in this line is an opposing force.

The thing about being a woman is that you're always a spectacle in a way.

I am hurling through the first part of the day, I need to get to my next thing, which is a manicure appointment.

This is a fairly neutral thing, it comes in all flavors - subtle, direct, colorful, classic.

Over time, my concept of what it means to be beautiful has evolved.

"If you're looking at an actor onstage with a cat, who are you going to look at, the actor or the cat?

The cat, because the cat is just being a cat."
